Readers of this blog may remember a piece of glass found last year at Chedworth Roman Villa.
We looked for comparisons and found nothing from Roman Britain.
This week I went to the National Museum of Archaeology in Naples where many of the finds from the excavations of Pompei and Herculaneum are housed.
Rooms full of whole glass vessels covered when Vesuvius erupted in AD 79.
One case had perfume and unguent jars imported from Egypt and Mesopotamia.
Here is Peter’s piece of glass found at Chedworth last August for comparison.
The piece of glass certainly seems to match the other unguent jars!
