With some fresh eyes and a consensus of Mitchell 🙂 I found an Isaac Mitchell on the 1841 and subsequent censuses in Shapwick (good work Carol you spotted him as well )
Isaac (54 years old) is listed as a carpenter on all the census I looked at and on the 1851 one, which was clearer to read, he is married to a lady called Love (52 years old) and his son Dennis (23 years old) is also listed as a carpenter. It is interesting to see his mother-in-law, called Hester Jefferies, also lived with them and is an amazing 95 years old!
How fascinating! Isaac Mitchell was my 3x great grandfather so it is interesting to see something he worked on and to see that he left his mark. I am descended from his son William who was a cabinet maker.
Hi Delia, it has been lovely to hear from relatives of both James Game and Isaac Mitchell, I wonder how many are still good with woodworking? I wonder if William did any thing for Kingston Lacy? We have volunteers cataloguing and digitizing the archive, I will try and sort out some research and see what else we may find 🙂
