The turf has been cut

The first turf has been cut and the concrete has been investigated. The students from Birmingham University arrived eager and ready to go. But first we had to tell them about Chedworth villa and show them around the site, which was done by Martin and Simon Esmonde Cleary.

Harry, our local volunteer, worked on cleaning off the turf from the roman walls and we started to lift turf in the areas between the concrete. Finds so far are a few red ware sherds and a 20th century drainage pipe!

We also found that the concrete was a bit thicker than we expected, so its off to the Ranger to borrow a sledge-hammer!
